My fourth grade teacher..........
ReplyDeletemy algebra teacher my sophomore year was the greatest influence on me. she wasn't the nicest teacher but she was the most effective. i have been really thankful for her being my teacher because i learned that she really cared for me and my education and is still there when i need help.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, my name is Elise!! In France -my home country- education is very different from here. Teachers are not as close with their students as they are here in the United States, and many students see school as a nightmare!! My dad has been a teacher in History and Geography in high-school for the past 20years and absolutely loves his job. Since I was a kid I always admired the passion and the energy he put in his job to make his students success and enjoy what they were learning. Today I am so happy and excited to be studying education here in the US, and I can not wait for the day I will be standing in front of my 3-4years old little cuties faces to open their eyes to the school paradise!!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, I had at least 2teachers like yours, effective but not the nicest ones...but those teachers made me learn so much that I can only thanks them today for the great education they gave me. I think some teachers, because of their personnality, can not have a close relationship with you, but that doesn't mean that they don't care for you!! -Elise-
ReplyDeleteI am from Honduras and the school I went to had by the most 25 students. Because of this we always had great teacher-student relationship. Ive always wanted to become a teacher because I love helping others. However, it wasn't until I had to give a demonstrative speech in my senior year that I realized that teaching is exactly what I want to do. My English teacher, after I gave my speech, told me that I should consider majoring in education. She has been one of the best teachers I've had, she helped me make up my mind on what I wanted to do after high school.
ReplyDeleteHi Elise. It is very interesting to know how education in France is much different to the one here in the US and Honduras (my home country). I admire you following your father's foot steps and I'm sure he must be very proud of you. I guess there is no greater inspiration and example than your father. You'll become a great teacher because what better teacher than your own father :).
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little kid and I cant wait to actually get in the classroom and be with the kids. My favorite teacher was my second grade teacher which is why I want to teach little kids, becuase she made school fun for us everyday. My other favorite teachers are made up of effective teachers who I didn't like at the time but taught me a lot, and the teachers who I didn't learn much from but were very connected with their students. I hope to combine both of these traits to be the best teacher I can.
ReplyDeleteAna that is so interesting that your school had so few people, you must have had a close realtionship with all of your teachers and fellow classmates. Do you think you will want to stay here and teach in bigger schools or go back and teach in Honduras?
ReplyDeleteHi Ana, don't you love how what one teacher says can influence you to become the greatest teacher they were? Although I knew what I wanted to be since I was a little kid, the impact that your teachers have on you is substantial to declare if you still want to pursue that career in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. My teachers I had growing up did influence me, to make me decide if I wanted this to be my career. When I was in the 6th grade, I had a teacher that was excellent in all fields of study. At the age of 12, I decided that I wanted to get my Doctorates degree so I could become a Superintendent of a school district. He inspired me so much, so at the age of 16, I started college so I could reach that goal.
ReplyDeleteCourtney, I am glad your teachers influenced you to become a teacher just like mine influenced me over the years! My favorite teacher that was the absolute deciding factor for me was my sophomore year of high school. Ms. Hagerty was my Honors Global teacher. She was amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I am in this class, because I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a litle girl. My mom is a teacher, and I would hear her stories, see her come home happy and excited about a new lesson plan, or something a little one had said to her, and I knew that I wanted to become a teacher. Teachers change lives in so many ways other than the obvious- teaching math, science, english, etc.- they teach about life, lessons, honesty, hard work, integrity, etc.
ReplyDeleteHi everybody, I would have to say the biggest influence on my life would have been from a coach in my life rather than a teacher. He taught me alot about life and really tried to expand my knowledge. I also want to coach as well as be a teacher however i want to influence more lives than the ones that will play for me and not take forgranted the lives that will sit in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI decided I wanted to be a teacher when I was a freshmen year in high school. A lot of things happened that year that set me on the path of teaching. The first this was when I helped my father’s friend coach a little league football team. I found that I love coaching and think that I could really be good at it. Later that year I met the person that would start me on the path of being a teacher. My freshmen math teacher / football coach really got me thinking about what I wanted to do with my life. Coach Beard was a fun and effective teacher. Getting to know Coach Beard, and seeing his lifestyle helped me realize that I wanted to be a teacher and coach. I had some great relationships with some of my teachers and coaches that helped mold me in a positive way and I think it would be more than rewarding to have a kids say that about me someday.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone my name is Becca. I am married and my husband is currently in Iraq and will not be back till October. My story is a long one so enjoy reading! After I graduated High School I knew I either wanted to be a teacher or a police officer. During the summer of going into my senior year i joined the Army. I served for 7 1/2 years and just recently was discharged because I had finished out my obligation. My job was military police, so you see I was a police officer. After doing that job for over 7 years I decided it was not my passion. I have taken nothing, but online courses so this is my first time in an actual college taking courses. I love kids and I want to be the teacher to challenge their minds and set them up for success. I still have a while to go, but I will continue to strive to succeed in my dream.
ReplyDeleteHi Elise, I can't believe that teaching could be so different in other countries. You show such passion and excitement to teach and I hope you never lose that. Good luck with all your future studies! Also are you planning on teaching here in the US or back in France?
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca. I think that it is awesome that you joined the army. It takes a lot of strength and will power to serve our country. I believe you will be an awesome teacher because you have been to other countries and know how important education is to children for a successful future. I am happy for you to have tried something many people do not even think about doing and learned a lot about yourself. You realized teaching is your passion and that is great!
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Kaitlyn. I have wanted to be a teacher for a long time. I remember looking in my pre-school year book and it said i wanted to be a teacher. Being a teacher has a lot of rewarding gifts. I would rather go to work being happy no matter the pay, instead of dreading going to work every morning with a job I do not like with more money. I have always tried hard in school and always looked up to my teachers. I want to teach children with learning disabilities. I believe every child should have the opportunity to learn no matter what. I had a few teachers in high school that really influenced me to become a teacher. Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Oberle were history teachers that really cared about their students and wanted them to understand history and the world today.
ReplyDeleteI am Nina Caputa and the reason why I am sitting in EDU courses is because when I was little and I would go to my friend's house she had this little sister who was always just flipping through picture books. She never knew the words on the pages and I was the only who noticed that she would love to know what those words said. So, whenever I came over the next couple of weeks I'd help her read a little more each time and that is when I first felt the feeling of fullfillment. Since then I have been wanting to keep feeling that sense of fullfillment.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone. I am in this EDU class because I am an exercise science major and it is required for the degree. I want to be a physical therapist but maybe by taking this class I might want to teach after I become a physical therapist. I do have a favorite 5th grade teacher but I was never inspired to teach.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I am now sitting in an education courses because of my middle school math teacher. She inspired me to teach because she cared about us as students and our academic future. She went to and measure to get us to understand math and pushed us to do better. She wasn't the easiest teacher to get along with, but her first priority wasn't being our friend, but getting us to understand algebra. But in the end she was every students best friend.
ReplyDeleteHi nina. I enjoyed reading your comment. I think that its really neat that you helped your friend's little sister. It shows you cared about her and paid attention to the little details. A lot of times we go over to friends house to hang out and gossip but you choose to make a difference in your friends little sisters life. I think you will make a great teacher.
ReplyDeleteI was inspired by a lot of teachers throughout the years, but the teacher that inspired me the most was my history teacher in 10th grade. He was my friend in and out of the classroom. I trusted him and actually wanted to pay attention in his class. His teaching style was great and really made people want to learn. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher and he pushed me even farther to accomplishing my goal. I help teach kids how to read and write over the summer and I absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany. I had a teacher like your math teacher once. At first I was not sure if I would get along with her, but after awhile I realized that she loved teaching because she wanted us to learn. She wanted us to learn as much as possible and get the best education. I understand why you are inspired and I feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteHi, i'm taking the class because i am an exercise science major and am going into physical therapy and the class is a requirement for my major. The teacher that influenced me the most was my lit teacher in 10th grade who was also one of my coaches.
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool that most everyone on here wants to be a teacher. even though I don't it is fun to read your inspirations for becoming teachers.
ReplyDeleteI feel like i am in the wrong class because everyone is so inspired to be a teacher. I am glad to see that Chris is also an exercise science major and also going into physical therapy.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I knew I have wanted to teach since I was a little girl. In the summers my best friend and I (who also became a teacher) would make all of the neighborhood kids attened the school of Emily and Nicole. My 3rd grade teacher was my biggest influence and is the reason I want to teach elementary school. I continued to go back and help her decorate bulletin boards and grade papers all the way up to the time I graduated highschool.
ReplyDeleteHey everybody! I think the one reason I want to be a teacher is because my mother is a teacher and she inspires me with all her talk of how much she loves her students. It sounds like a lot of fun getting to know a class of students year after year. Cant wait!
ReplyDeleteWow Emily! That is hilarious that you taught the neighborhood kids at your own little school! Did anyone fail?
ReplyDeleteHello everybody!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. The one teacher who made me sure of this was my high school English teacher. He would play music before every class and dress in costumes. It showed me how much of an impact a teacher can have on student's lives.Everyday I would go into class wondering what it had in store for that day.
Nina, I had a situation similar to yours. My brother has a learning disability. I always tried to help him with his homework even though he was older. It always made me feel like I made such a difference in his life so I wanted to help other children learn.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I here? I am going into education for many reasons, my parents are both in education and it comes as a second nature to me because it's the only life I have known. I am also wanting to go into education to be there for students like my 8th grade science teacher and many other teachers were there for me and still are. I want to help students out in life, give the push they may not be getting from their parents or family to make something of themselves. I am wanting to get the students who are in abusive homes out, I was unable to get a friend and his brother away from their father, therefore I still get phone calls and messages telling me what happened at his home with his father. Most of all, I love teaching, and when you see a students face light up once they understand a concept that is the biggest award.
ReplyDeleteCourtney, wow. I can't believe that you had the guts to start college at the age of 16.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Carrie Lizenbee. I am pursing a degree in Music Education with a goal to become an awesome band director and make a significant differnce and impression on the lives of many children in the years ahead.
ReplyDeleteThree teachers in particular started me on this path. My elementary Music teacher, Mr. Tom Allen, my Junior High Band Director, Mr. Bill Salyer, and my college band director, Mr. Buddy White.
I came from a very poor background, but one thing we could always afford at our house was music. Be it singing, bluegrass, or church music.
My elementary music teacher was so confident that I needed to be in band that he gave me my first instrument (I'm sure he bought it at a flea market, because it was a piece of junk, but he got me started.)
Then in jr high, my first year playing, I excelled above all of the 7th and 8th grade students and my band director encouraged me to join the community college band in town. He even provided me with transportation each week.
That same band director kept in contact with me through the years, and at 30 when I decided to go back to college to pursue music, he offered me a full music scholarship in his music department. And ultimately, helped me to get a full-ride at Lindenwood.
These teachers not only touched me with their kindness and encouraged me to grow beyond my natural talents, but the also inspired me to pass that love and kindness on to others.
I am very passionate about being the same kind of director that all of them were. I want to teach kids to see and feel things in ways they've never considered before and I want to inspire kids to press on, even when life's circumstances don't seem too promising.
Why am I here? I have always known that I either wanted to become a nurse or teacher. I was finally able to make my final decision when I began working a summer camp. I was able to work with kids ranging in ages. I have worked at the camp for four years now and still love it. I also volunteer at my church's nursery with infants and toodlers. I love that too. It's the main reason why I want to teach early childhood. I am so excited to finally be able to start making the steps to becoming a teacher.
ReplyDeleteHey Jaclyn, like you I knew I wanted to be a teacher at an early age and I can't wait to get in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I can remember I always wanted to be a teacher. I can remember being a kid and playing "school" by teaching my little brother and sister. I would read them books or make up worksheets that they had to do. It's kinda funny now. I would have to say my mom got me to where I am today. She always taught me how to do things and I always wanted to do the same.
ReplyDeleteJust reading everyone's blogs is neat. It's as if we are paying it foward. Everyone has either had a teacher, a friend, or family member inspire them to become an educator. I think thats pettey awesome that now after having someone inspire us in some way to help others out we are becoming teachers ourselves.
ReplyDeleteSup everyone, My name is Trey I'm from Kennett, Mo.Its in the bootheel, its The home town of famous singers Sheryl Crow, Tent Tomilson, and David Nail. The people that really inspired me the most to want to be a teacher was my football coach Jim Tidd and basketball coach Jim vaughan. They made a difference in my life thought sports and i just want to have the same opportunity to do that through coaching basketball and teaching in the class room.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone my name is Latasha. I have always loves children. I want to have a home daycare more personal to me. I have been inspired by my Godmother and some teachers that I have had in education to futher my education in teaching. To know more about children and how to understand and teach them correctly.
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle
ReplyDeleteThats weird that I was choose between nursing and childcare too. I am a tech now at SLU hospital I love the patients but the job itself is horrible. I have also worked with children at a church I loved it you become so attach to them and then they leave you. Well nice knowing a little about you, maybe we can talk more in class.
Hello fellow classmates! My name is Brittany and I've always thought about teaching as a career. I want to be a 9th grade history teacher bc i truly believe that i can mke that subject fun and still teach my students vital information. Another reason why i chose education was beacuse i was inspired by a teacher I had because she really knew how balance fun and learning
ReplyDeleteIt's cool seeing what everyone had to say the on the blog! I agree with ashley! I played "school" too. I would play "school" in my basement and my dolls were my students. I had a chalkboard and everything.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! My name is Brittany and I am here because I want to become a Spanish teacher. I love helping people, and I love the Spanish culture. I think the language is beautiful and I want to express that to my future students. I hope to motivate my students, like my Spanish teacher motivated me. My Spanish teacher Sra. Seliga was very energetic, and the way she taught was uplifting.
ReplyDeleteHi Becca!
ReplyDeleteI was also inspired by my 10th grade history teacher. He was my volleyball coach and he helped me through some rough times. He was one of the many teachers that I looked up to.
Hey everyone my name is Nick. I'm from Florissant, MO. The teacher that inspired me the most was my 10th grade english teacher Mr. Moran. He was a very effective teacher and just a great all around guy inside and outside of the classroom. He would always go the extra mile to help a student understand the material. I would like to be a high school biology or chemistry teacher.
ReplyDeleteHey Brittany,
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you want to be a Spanish teacher. I love the language as well but sadly I am horrible at foreign languages. I have a great admiration for bilingual people.
HI everyone. I am amanda mueller. i go by Mandy. I am From St. peters. i have known since i was about 5 years old that i wanted to be an educator of some kind. It was mostly through free play at home with friends and the kids my mom babysitting that i knew i liked helping others learn.
ReplyDeleteHi ashley,
ReplyDeleteI think there are many of us who played school as a kid and grew up with the passion to teach. i also think its great your mom had some positive influence on you to become a teacher.
In response to Angel Lehn
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you are conisdering teaching even tho you're not inspired. You never know what opportunity or calling you might miss if you aren't willing to expand your horizons.
Perhaps teaching won't be right for you, but you will be glad you made an educated decision about. Kudos for taking this class!

ReplyDeleteTrey Abmeyer...
ReplyDeleteI see that you are from Kennett. I'm from just a little north of you, near Dexter. Good to see another southerner up here. Best wishes!
Being in class today really made me want to be a teacher as soon as possible. I learned a lot from other students and their stories. I think it is really important to challenge your students so they can get a full understanding of the concept you are teaching. Most teachers I have had in the past have had high energy to be in the class room and motivate students. Having high energy is very important because students are not going to like you and you may bore them. No matter how you day or past night was, you should want to be there. I think another big responsibility of being a teacher is being available to help children with there homework or a concept they are struggling with. If you don't help, you are not being an effective teacher.
ReplyDeleteIF there is a teacher out there that has all of those qualities I would like to meet him/her and shake their hand! However, I am not that teacher so i would narrow that list down to teach to not at the students, think outside the box, and challenge the students. But in my mind, these three are all related and go hand in hand. In some subjects in order to teach to the students and not at the students the educator has to think outside the box and take a new approach to the subject which in turn causes new challenges to not only the students but the teacher as well!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% Kaitlyn! I had a teacher here at Lindenwood that God bless her sole tried to connect with the students but wasnt very effective because the teachers energy level was that of a baby turtle and was very monotone. This professor knew what he/she was talking about but didnt share the fire with us.
